Momoko Komori of Japan won first prize in the professional pedal division at the eighth Hong Kong International Harp Competition, held in Hong Kong Oct. 4–7. Chenyang Jing (Japan) won silver. Yin Wah Natalie Lo (Hong Kong) took home bronze. Gabriella Jones (U.K.) received fourth prize, while Mai Kamiyama (Japan) was awarded fifth prize. Hanjiao Zou (China) received honorable mention.
The competition was open to harpists of all nationalities and offered 12 different divisions, including three divisions for duets for harp with any instrument or voice. After the jury assigned points, contestants received gold, silver, and bronze designations for reaching certain thresholds. This year’s competition jury included harpists Jason Chang, Louise Grandjean, Ann Huang, Zhiyang Sun, Barbara Sze, Amy Tam, Karen Vaughan, Guan Wang, Ann Yeung, Lauyee Yeung, and Dan Yu, as well as pianist and composer Iñaki Sandoval, Dean of the School of Music at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
