    Hi all,
I haven’t been on in a while, but I’m not sure what to do…
Around the end of August, I’m making a 15-hour trek from New Hampshire to college in Virginia.

The harp should be in the cab with you.

This question reads as though you are considering giving the microwave a more comfortable ride than the harp.

I am in no way saying I value the microwave more than the harp!

The back of the truck will not be cooled and the heat will damage your harp. It should be in the same climate as yourself. Any possibility of renting a van instead so the harp and everything else can be in the cabin with you and your family?

    Unfortunately, no.

Hi, Shelby: Catherine’s right about the temperature. While your mom is correct that harps are shipped all over the country in cardboard boxes in trucks, they also aren’t shipped if the temperature is outside a certain range. Living in Florida, I’ve had to wait for it to be cool enough in the southern half of the country to get a new harp shipped from up north. I’ve also had to wait for it to be warm enough for a harp to be shipped from Chicago. Harps can be packaged and cushioned well enough, but that doesn’t mean it won’t get hot enough to damage the finish or weaken the glue. If you wouldn’t endure the temp, your harp shouldn’t.

Along with what Andy said, the harps shipped all over the country are in boxes with fitted Styrofoam. I doubt you still have the container that your harp was shipped in. The bed of the truck will also be too bouncy for the harp, if you don’t believe me have a friend take you for a ride

The shocks on the bed of a truck are not good! See my respose further down in this thread.

I don’t have much of a mental image of an extended cab but I think these can take at least four people?

Thanks for pointing out the issue of heat.
