Thank you, Balfour! I do enjoy playing my little Fireside double strung and am looking for something more substantial. My usual harp is a Ravenna 34 – a FH36 would be a dream harp!
tinyknitParticipantThank you, Biagio! I find the strings to have light tension, similar to a Harpsicle. I will look into the Morgan Meadow.
tinyknitParticipantThank you, Balfour! I think you are right, but I’ll see if anyone else has other suggestions.
tinyknitParticipantThanks, Biagio! I think we’re going to try Stoney End for this harp. Perhaps they’ll have some ideas for lowering the range.
tinyknitParticipantGood to know, Biagio! Love the low notes so I’m always looking for the lowest string I can get on any model.
tinyknitParticipantJackie, that is the big advantage with the Brea and Brittany as compared with the Briar Rose and Braunwyn double strung harps. It would be great to have something so portable! I might get levers on F, C, G, and B. My first harp had just those levers and it never seemed to be a problem.
Thanks!
tinyknitParticipantJackie, so glad to hear that you’re enjoying your new Brea! I notice they also have a double string Briar Rose, which somehow I missed on the Stoney End website but it shows up on their price sheet. Another harp to consider! I definitely want an F or C string as my lowest string.
Evolène, I did see that other forum, but it was after I posted here. Oops! I will keep watch on it now though 🙂 Thank you again for all the information about double strung harps.
Biagio, you have shared a wealth of information here, and I truly appreciate it. If we decide on a Stoney End, we will likely get it “In the White” so all that precision gluing won’t be an issue. I think it’s just finishing, strings and levers.
tinyknitParticipantwow! That is a lot to think about, Biagio! We don’t have a workshop, but it’s an interesting idea. I should probably try out some double strung harps and see if there are particular models that I prefer. Thanks again 🙂
tinyknitParticipantBeautiful harps, Biagio. I can’t swing that kind of money now, but will have to save up awhile for a $3,000+ harp. Thank you again!
tinyknitParticipantYes, brook-boddie, I’d be interested in learning more. Not sure how to contact you though. Thanks!
tinyknitParticipantBiagio, you make some excellent points! I wasn’t aware of the angled strings. Maybe I’d better see one in person. My husband and I were thinking of getting one “in the white” so I am now wondering if that would make the conversion to including a lower range of strings a possibility (like starting at the C one octave below middle C rather than the F). I will try to find your old string substitution post.
Thank you again!
tinyknitParticipantThank you, Evolène! My teacher is getting the Dusty Strings double strung soon. So maybe I should wait to see and hear hers. Not sure I can afford that model, but I think it is a wonderful harp.
Thanks for the advice on the F string. That’s the route I’ll go if I can’t swing a higher priced double strung. I had thought of the Lorelei, but I’d be sad to go back to the tighter string spacing.
tinyknitParticipantThank you, Biagio. Looking for used double strung harps is a great idea! I’ll give that a try.
tinyknitParticipantMy thanks to all of you! Yes, it is very helpful, balfour-knight. I am really looking forward to trying a harp kit soon!
tinyknitParticipantThank you for giving me such a detailed answer. You have given me a lot to consider!
