I usually just pack mine in with sleeping bags (like Patricia suggested), and it drives just fine for hours! I do like to make sure the sun isn’t hitting it directly in the same spot the entire time, though.
I think loosening the strings applies to air travel, when the pressure & humidity will fluctuate quite a bit during the flight. If you’re staying in the same climate zone while driving, you should be fine!
(Just keep the car comfortable for you, and it’ll be comfortable for the harp.)
Have fun with your gig! : )

After renting a pedal harp for a bit, I used 4 years’ summer wages of driving tractor on my parent’s farm, plus a generous donation from a woman I barely knew at my church (she came into an inheritance and wanted to bless others!), and bought a LH85 semi-grand in my senior year of high school. So far, my harp has taken me through college and countless gigs, and I absolutely love it. Still not sure how I ever could have afforded it if not for that generous woman…I hope one day I can pay it forward!

Thank you for all the thoughts! Good to know about the Four Seasons, Swanson, and Harp Couture brands; I haven’t heard of those yet. Thank you for the “road reviews” – quite helpful!
