ParticipantI would love you hear about your experience and your impression of the harp. I really love mine. : ) Share pics, too!

ParticipantI have a L&H Washburn J. I contacted L&H and was given info that the Washburn line was made for only a few years; from 1910-1914. http://mtr.arcade-museum.com/MTR-1913-57-3/MTR-1913-57-3-28.pdf
Check out this link. It’s a trade paper from 1913. My 1912 instrument is not only beautiful with it’s bronze column, the tone is large and very warm. And… because of the lighter tension… it is nice to my arthritis. : ) I wonder if the example you refer to is a J… In that case it was probably built in 1911.

ParticipantThanks for your advice, Howard.
Now… a question to complicate the matter. In the late 1950s, the harp was rebuilt and the soundboard was replaced.

ParticipantThe third round was fantastic. I was most disappointed that Marta Marinelli did not move on to round 3. Quite an amazing 16 y/o – both technically and musically. A bit more maturity will find her at the top of the harp world. : )

ParticipantI would recommend a Lyon & Healy Prelude. The sound is impressive and although it looks like a small pedal harp, it weighs only 42lbs. If you live near the Madison, Wisconsin area, you would be welcome to play mine. Actually… you could buy it if you liked it : ) (I just bought a lovely L&H Pedal harp and having both is a bit excessive.) Good luck with your hunt. There are many nice instruments to be found between 3-5k. (I’m selling mine for $3400 (btw).

ParticipantAll that considered… you may end up with a pretty good Style 11 for 8 or 9K. The external structure looks promising. (But I’m an optimist ; ) It was sad to see the permanent marker scrawl. It’s going to be much easier to remove adhesive than the marker.
