ParticipantThe one that sounds the best and feels the best. Carvings mean nothing 🙂 Be very careful with older instruments. Check the neck alignment and ask how well its been maintained. Regulated every year? These things make a HUGE difference. And, if you can, play them next to each other! I’ve had new harps and older harps. I’ve loved them all. Put the decoration blinders on and listen, its all that matters.

ParticipantHarp and percussion we are fine on 🙂 If anyone wants to check it out, we have lots of pieces! http://www.duoharpverk.com Check out the works list. I’ll look up this Paul Reade piece! Thanks!

ParticipantYes! We’ve been talking aout the madrigals for another concert for awhile. And we’re trying to avoid breaking in to our two respective ensembles (mine being harp and percussion and the other has the rest of the instruments) for this concert. Its tough. It could be duos or trios though! We’ve thought about the Tan Dun piece for piccolo, bass drum and harp. Do you know of anything newer for harp, violin and cello or harp and clarinet maybe?

ParticipantYea, I actually very much trust these organizers with my instrument. My last great experience was with them. (And I personally have let them move my harp around the country, in winter, and they did a fabulour job taking care of it.) Do you think its bad if I say yes to some situations, but an absolute no to others? I want people to be able to play here, but, I would like to know who the harpist is and actually speak to them before renting it out. Oh well, I’m sure this company will come back to me and ask again.

Participantoops! Also cello. So a combination of any of the following instruments: harp, percussion, flute, violin, clarinet, cello, and piano…

ParticipantThis is such a toughie! You don’t want people hiring students because they are “cheaper”, yet, they aren’t at the level to be considered professional. I’d like to see what people think on this one too!!

ParticipantI have to tune to 443 over here. If I’m at 442, half way through the concert, I sound flat. I don’t actually notice a difference between the feeling of the instrument at 440 (which I have to switch to for pop recordings) and 443. As for what it sounds like, as long as its in tune with my surroundings I’m happy! To me, being a little flat drives me nuts. 🙂
