Realize this thread is now almost three years old, but I purchased the Cromos harp this summer (2022) and just took delivery this week. I have one of just three in the US, according to Mr. Thurau. The very high cost of intl shipping (especially at this moment in time) plus the ludicrous customs and broker’s fees may have something to do with that, as does, I suspect, the availability of a wide range of less expensive Celtic and troubadour harps in the US. You have to really want a Thurau harp as you pay a premium for the privilege. But a privilege it is. Happy to show it to anyone contemplating it if you’re in SoCal.
I’m a beginner harpist so I can’t knowledgeably speak to how the sound or string tension compare to other harps. It’s definitely lighter tension than my previous Triplett (or a concert grand of course) and seems endlessly resonant (and not just when it’s played; it talks back to the dog when he barks and picks up lots of other sounds in the house as well!).
Kleeman’s YouTube videos playing this harp are well mic’ed and I think are a pretty accurate demo of how it actually sounds – if you turn the sound way up, you can hear the harp’s seemingly characteristic overtones and soundbox resonance.
