If you have never experienced a lesson or masterclass with Elzbieta Szmyt (or simply “Ela,” as she is known to many in the harp world), then you are in for a treat. Our newest addition to Harp Column Academy’s roster of master teachers is one of the most dynamic—and dare we say fun—teachers you’ll find.
Originally from Poland, Szmyt came to the United States to study with the legendary Susann McDonald at Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington, and she never left. Szmyt joined the faculty immediately after graduation, went on to lead the pre-college program at IU, and now serves as the chair of the harp department at the university’s storied Jacobs School of Music.
In her Harp Column Academy studio, Szmyt focuses on her favorite teaching pieces from the Graded Recital Pieces series by Susann McDonald and Linda Wood, including “Concert Etude,” “Processional,” “Two Guitars,” “Russian Lullaby,” and “Crystallis.” Whether you are learning these pieces for the first time, or returning to them to pick up some teaching tips, we think you’re going to love these lessons with Elzbieta Szmyt.
