Already very soon after its first publication translations into English and German would follow. Grieg must have been aware of the outstanding quality of the composition, and therefore he already produced his own arrangement for piano. This piano version deviates from the version for vocalists by a few extra bars at the end, which elaborate on the theme once more and so it resounds again\u2014in fading away.
