The orignial, ideal versions of these arrangements are as listed below, with the possible instrumental substitution(s) noted in parentheses. In a few places the substitution parts are not the same as the originals, or their use requires an adaptation of the other parts.<\/p>\n

About the Music<\/h3>\n

These pieces represent a variety of traditions. “Noel Provencal” and “Patapan” originated in France. “I Saw Three Ships,” “Lullay My Liking,” and “What Child is This?” hail from England. “Rise Up Shepherd” is an American spiritual; “I Wonder as I Wander” comes to us from the Appalachian mountains. “Tu Scendi All Stelle” (You Came Down From the Stars) is from Italy. Most of these beautiful melodies, which have have been passed along for many generations, share an anonymous origin, penned by some unknown person to whom we owe our appreciation and thanks. The arrangements themselves are freely done, the addition of harmonic variation and counter melodies.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\n\n\t
