It consists of six pieces for piano duet, each written as a birthday gift or for other events in Dolly’s life. They appeared together as a suite, Op.56, in 1897 and were first performed in a public concert in Paris, April 30, 1898.
It is almost certain that Berceuse was the first to be composed and was intended as a lullaby for Dolly’s first birthday. This music became synonymous with the radio programme for children, “Listen with Mother”, which ran between 1950 and 1982 and arguably has become the most famous piece in this suite. It is certainly well received by audiences, as Elinor Bennett and myself discovered when we included these four movements in a concert programme.

Meinir Heulyn

https://harpcolumn.com/music/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2019/06/Harp-Duos—Vol-4.mp3

Harp Duos––Vol 4 includes four movements from Fauré’s “Dolly” Suite, arranged by Meinir Heulyn for two pedal harps.
