After a very well received commission by the Two Moors Festival in 2005 for an educational project (a piece for harp and string quartet that could also be used for workshops aimed at helping GCSE and A level composers), I was then invited in 2007 to compose a piece for the Festival youth choir to be performed during the Festival\u2019s summer mini-concert series. The main specification was that it had to be predominantly one vocal line, as the young singers were not yet experienced enough to sing in multiple parts. Songs of Childhood, set to words by Robert Louis Stevenson, was the end result.
