The four-movement suite op. 55 culminates in the meditative song of Solvejg, in which she relates her impatient yearning for Peer Gynt. Between the minor-key slow verses, an inset Nordic dance continues the melancholy, meditative mood, despite its seemingly light dotted rhythm.
