As a ninni, it belongs to a deeply rooted oral tradition of cradle songs. The song reflects the intimate and emotional character of regional folk music, passed down through generations. I composed a gently rocking harp accompaniment to complement its lullaby character. The lyrics were added as an interpretive suggestion to give a sense of the song. You may sing them at any point if you wish, but the piece also works beautifully without. For an authentic performance, please refer to recordings by native speakers. The English translation is provided as a general overview and does not fully capture the poetic depth of the original language. Variations may exist across different regions.

This piece contains microtones. For an authentic regional sound, the F strings should be tuned between F and F-sharp. If this is not possible, use F-sharp throughout the piece. If you have Loveland levers, it is possible to place the lever in a microtone position (see above video). All other harp types require manual retuning. I particularly enjoy the sound of the harp with microtones, but I understand the practical difficulties this tuning may present.

Scroll down to listen.

Samira Memarzadeh has arranged the traditional Turkish lullaby “Atem Tutem Men Seni” for solo lever or pedal harp.
