The earliest published version of this tune in James Johnson’s The Scottish Musical Museum, Vol.5<\/em> (1839) was used as a starting point for this arrangement. Johnson collaborated in the publication with the poet Robert Burns who wrote the lyrics in 1782. The song depicts a young woman much loved by the lads of her town. Youthful and warm in sentiment, the words are perhaps not quite as innocent as they first appear.
