Herbert Hughes was the first to publish this beautiful tune in Songs of Uladh<\/em> (1904). Hughes traced it back to at least 50 years earlier to the middle of the 19th century. He did not include a key or time signature for the piece and the bar lines are irregular, so it doesn’t fit easily into a regular timing. The lyrics concern a fairy-mistress (Leanan-Sidhe) who seduces mortal men before they become her slaves. In Gaelic folklore, the Leanan-Sidhe is a muse who gives inspiration to those she traps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
