The first movement, “Voluntary,” is fashioned in the style of a traditional voluntary with an interplay of flair and fanfare. “Vocalise,” the second movement, brings out the lyrical nature of each instrument while sweeping through the tapestry of jazz-influenced harmony. The final movement, “Vivace,” begins with a musical discourse before embarking on a blues and funk voyage in the meter of 7\/8.
