He studied composition with Anton Bruckner and Robert Fuchs.<br \/>\nHe succeeded his father, harpist Anton Zamara, as professor for harp at &#8220;Konservatorium der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde&#8221; (now: University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna) from 1887-1919. 1892-94 he was a member of Hofopernorchester (orchestra of the royal opera Vienna).<\/p>\n<p>Not many of Alfred Zamara&#8217;s compositions are still being played, mostly because they are out of print. This little gem &#8220;Mes premi\u00e8res pens\u00e9es&#8221;, &#8220;My first thoughts&#8221; was published in 1897 and dedicated to his &#8220;beloved wife&#8221;, Katharina Radakovich (married 1894).<\/p>\n<p>In this re-edition I added pedal markings and for better readability made some enharmonic changes. This piece presents a romantic and harpistic soundscape, reminiscent of Chopin. Short and sweet, it is a good opener or encore for a concert, an elegant addition for gig-repertoire and a good introduction for students to virtuoso literature.
