Willi März was born in Munich, Germany, and studied piano as well as instrumentation and jazz harmony at the Musikhochschule in Munich. In collaboration with Johanna Jung, principal harpist at the opera in Lübeck, März has arranged a huge amount of mainstream classical repertoire for harp duo as well as for harp quartet. The various parts of the harp ensemble don’t have fixed roles in Willi März’s arrangements, but each player gets a fair share of main melody, contrapuntal elements and accompaniment. Through his system of “Democratic Arrangement” the author aims to achieve a sound which is always flexible and three dimensional whilst avoiding any monotonous routine for the performers.
