“Menuett” from Don Giovanni
“Dance of the Blessed Spirits”
Notes from the arranger
Not only is Don Giovanni one of Mozart’s most important operas, it is one of the most important operas in music history. Some even consider it the quintessential opera of all time. It timeless success is mainly due to the many arias, which can safely be counted amongst the “greatest hits” of classical music, including this minuet from the end of Act 1.
The ballet music “Dance of the Blessed Spirits” from Act 2 of the opera “Orpheus ed Euridice” is one of the “eternal melodies” of the world of music and is available in countless arrangements and recordings. While the motif originally is set for two flutes, its floating character is suited perfectly also for harp ensemble.
