Die Loreley

$6.00$35.00

Based on a poem by Heinrich Heine with music by Friedrich Silcher, the well-known German song “Die Loreley” has been arranged by Willi Maerz for four pedal harps and choir (SATB). The Loreley is a mythical creature and also the name of a slate rock in the river Rhine gorge, around which the river winds in a dangerously narrow curve. Due to heavy currents it was also the site of many boating accidents in past centuries, and thus the legend developed of a blond fairy (or witch) combing her long hair and singing enchantingly beautiful siren songs, distracting the boatmen who would lose control and crash into the rock.
