Stephen Dunstone’s original composition “The Forest Pool,” for two lever or pedal harps, is a gentle and serene piece in G major “evoking the sense of peace-in-nature one might have on coming across a reed-fringed pool in a sunlit forest clearing,” says Dunstone. The second half becomes a little more challenging for Harp 1 who plays harmony and a descant while Harp 2 takes over the melody.

Notes from the composer:

“I wrote this after arriving at a school music department that was peculiarly deserted. In the unusual quiet of the place, the melody came into my head from nowhere, and in the absence of any pupils to teach I wrote it all down. The pupils never did arrive —I discovered later that the whole school was at a hockey match. So if it hadn’t been for the hockey, the piece might never have been written…”
