Air from Suite No. 3
$8.00
Rhett Barnwell’s arrangement of the classic Bach air—also known as “Air on the G String”—is for solo lever or pedal harp. One of Bach’s most popular and often requested pieces for weddings and other occasions, Barnwell has made the piece accessible for both lever and pedal harp, with both versions included in this edition. “The music itself is not technically difficult, but the pedal and lever changes place the piece at an advanced intermediate level,” says the arranger. It is presented in the original key of D, and the lever version is abridged.

Honestly, there is too much lever switching for me to consider using this arrangement on a Celtic harp. I know there are others who might enjoy this piece, but I couldn’t make these constant changes and play this as a therapeutic offering. I love Rhett’s other arrangements, and am sorry I won’t be using this one.

Thanks for your input Pam, and we’re sorry this piece didn’t work out for you! Many of Rhett Barnwell’s arrangements contain few to no lever changes, so we hope you’ll give some of those pieces a try! Let us know if you need help finding something suitable.

As Pam said, there are many lever changes that make this peice chaotic. However, there are easy workarounds (changing the octave of a note to avoid a change, dropping out a few left hand notes here and there). I’m just not sure why Barnwell couldn’t make this piece more user-friendly to begin with. That being said, it is a lovely arrangement, just needs some tweaks to make it playable.
