Ariadna Demkov’s arrangement of Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte is for solo pedal harp. ” A pavane is a slow processional dance enjoyed in the courts of Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries,” explains the arranger. “With this piece, Ravel wanted to pay homage to the culture and customs of the age from which the pavane came from. With his impressionistic style, Ravel captures a sense of dreamy nostalgia in the music.” This piece received an honorable mention in Harp Column’s New Music Contest.
