As a teacher, Sonja believes in a very individualized approach to a student’s education. Considering the personal experience and expectations of each student is the basis on which she builds every distinct lesson. With more than three decades of professional teaching and performing experience, she has developed the skill to connect with every level of student - child, adult, beginner, and advanced.
Sonja began studying harp at age three with her mother, Dr. Ruth K. Inglefield. After continuing her studies in France and Italy, and on a prestigious Fulbright Grant in Romania, she earned an Artist Diploma and a Master of Music in pedagogy from the Peabody Conservatory. While in Baltimore, she spent sixteen years as Principal Solo Harpist with the Baltimore Opera Company, and served on faculty at the Peabody Preparatory, Goucher College, and the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
In 2012, Sonja joined the faculty of the State University of New York at Fredonia. A champion of contemporary music for her instrument, she has premiered and helped to commission numerous works for the harp. Frequently in demand for master classes, she has adjudicated both regional and national competitions. Previously a Board member of the American Harp Society, she currently serves as US correspondent to the World Harp Congress Review, and Executive Secretary for the Composition Contest of the USA International Harp Competition.
