An innovative educator with over 20 years of experience, Kela Walton embraces teaching both lever and pedal harp to students of all ages. It is never too soon or too late to learn to play an instrument you love! A registered Suzuki harp instructor, Kela draws from many methods and teaching philosophies to find the best approach for each individual student. All students study standard harp repertoire, music theory, and musicianship in their individual lessons.
Before relocating to Spartanburg, South Carolina, Kela established the harp program at Buffalo Suzuki Strings in New York, where she taught individual and group harp lessons as well as Suzuki Early Childhood Education classes. She was also privileged to serve as harp faculty member previously in Texas at Temple College, Round Rock ISD, the University of Houston Moores School of Music Preparatory and Continuing Studies Program, and Longhorn Music Camp, as well as Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan. Kela holds a M.M. in Harp Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Houston Moores School of Music where she studied with Paula Page, and a B.M. in Harp Performance from the University of Texas at Austin where she studied with Gayle Barrington. Additionally Kela studied upon invitation with Alice Chalifoux at the Salzedo School in Camden, Maine. Her Suzuki training includes coursework with Dr. Laurie Scott and Delaine Leonard.
