My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that each student is an individual, and should be encouraged in this way. Just as no two harpists' hands are shaped identically, each student has individual technical and musical talents and needs. Additionally, I aim to teach the "whole harpist," including physical and mental strategies in addition to those which are musical and technical. My teaching is a fusion of several approaches and styles. Jaymee Haefner’s performances have been described by Daniel Buckley as possessing “an air of dreamy lyricism… interlocking melody lines with the deftness of a dancer’s footwork.” Dr. Haefner joined the University of North Texas (UNT) College of Music faculty in 2006 and also serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies for the college. Her recent major performances include the AHS 40th Conference in New York City, the AHS 41st Conference in New Orleans, recordings with the Bloomington Pops Orchestra, baritone Daniel Narducci, Alfredo Rolando Ortiz, and recordings of violin and harp music in her duo, Crimson. She published The Legend of Henriette Renié and serves on the board of the American Harp Society and World Harp Congress. Dr. Haefner obtained her BM and MM degrees from the University of Arizona and her DM degree from Indiana University. When she isn’t on stage, Dr. Haefner trains in American Karate with her son, and recently obtained her first degree black belt.
